Marvel Studios plans to expand the MCU by incorporating characters from the Young Avengers. Several key figures were introduced during Phase 4, such as Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan, Eli Bradley, America Chavez, and Billy and Tommy Maximoff. This has led to speculation that they might eventually team up as a new generation of heroes. Confirmation of a Young Avengers project came during the closing moments of The Marvels, where Kamala Khan met with Kate Bishop to discuss assembling a team of young heroes. Xochitl Gomez, who plays America Chavez, is especially excited about this opportunity.
During an interview with ComicBook.com, Gomez expressed her enthusiasm for the potential of uniting a diverse and young cast. She highlighted the camaraderie and support within the group and recalled a recent event she attended with Kathryn Newton, who plays Cassie Lang, as an example of the fun they could have together on this project. Gomez said, “It would be pretty awesome to have a pretty young, diverse cast altogether. Just the thought of that is pretty awesome. Just knowing that we all support one another. And I saw Kathryn [Newton], she came to [Dancing With the Stars]. It’s just one of those things that it would be nice to have a fun moment altogether.”
Hailee Steinfeld portrayed Kate Bishop in the 2021 Hawkeye Disney+ series, taking on the title role from Clint Barton. Unlike Ms. Marvel, Bishop was a central character in the Young Avengers comics. In an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Steinfeld shared her excitement about the possibility of introducing the Young Avengers to the MCU. While she doesn’t have any insider information on the project, she is optimistic about their inclusion and is eager to reprise her role as Kate Bishop. “Yeah, I’m certainly chomping at the bit… It’s been a while since [the Apple TV+ series] Dickinson’ ended and since Hawkeye came out, but I am so ready to get back at it. I am itching to be on set again with people that do what I do, and love what we do, and I have such a sense of belonging when I’m on set, and a sense of home, and I just love it. And it has been a while. So, I am very much chomping up a bit.”
On the other hand, Iman Vellan’s performance in The Marvels has received praise from both critics and audiences, but the film’s approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes sits at 61%, and its projected opening weekend box office earnings seem unpromising.
