- Deadpool and Cable co-creator Rob Liefeld is proud of Brolin’s portrayal of the character.
It’s difficult to imagine a Deadpool 2 without Josh Brolin’s portrayal of the time-traveling mutant Cable, but it turns out that it almost happened. It’s widely known that Brad Pitt was initially considered for the role of Cyclops’ son. Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld has confirmed this during an interview with ComicBook.com: “I know for a 100-percent fact that was true. That is [absolutely true].”
Liefeld also revealed that this casting choice happened very early on in the process. As they realized that Brad Pitt wouldn’t be playing Cable, they considered several other actors before ultimately choosing Josh Brolin. Interestingly, Brolin also portrayed the villainous Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Brolin’s unique take on Cable might not have happened had it not been for his wife, Kathryn Brolin. According to Liefeld, she read the Deadpool 2 script after he initially showed no interest, and convinced him to accept the role. Pitt, on the other hand, had a brief cameo as the character Vanisher in the film.
Rob Liefeld is thrilled with the casting outcome and praises Brolin’s performance as Cable. He’s also quite proud of the live-action portrayals of both Deadpool and Cable and looks forward to what’s in store for the characters in the future.
Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are currently available for streaming on Disney+.
