A24 and Chernin Entertainment announced the upcoming musical comedy Dicks: The Musical will have a sing-along version available in theaters for one week, starting on Friday, October 27th. With the nationwide release just in time for Halloween, audiences can participate in the musical madness.
The soundtrack boasts 25 original songs, such as “Gay Old Life,” performed by Nathan Lane, and “Out Alpha the Alpha,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion, among others. The score and original songs were crafted by Marius de Vries (Moulin Rouge!, La La Land) and Karl Saint Lucy, who also worked with Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp on the stage play F***ing Identical Twins, which inspired the film.
Directed by Larry Charles, Dicks: The Musical features a talented cast, including Tony Award winner Nathan Lane, Megan Mullally, Bowen Yang, Grammy Award-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion, Aaron Jackson, and Josh Sharp. The film premiered at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received rave reviews from critics. Vanity Fair described the songs as “legitimate toe-tappers,” while Variety praised the comedy as “raucous, deliriously madcap.”
Jericho Tadeo referred to Dicks: The Musical as an “An Unapologetically Gay Movie” and commended Sharp and Jackson’s writing, as well as Charles’ masterful direction. The film was released in theaters on October 6, 2023, and the sing-along version will be available for a limited time starting Friday, October 27.
