The first reactions to The Marvels, the latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), are in, with critics taking to social media to share their enthusiastic responses. Despite meek box office projections and reported chaos behind-the-scenes at Marvel Studios, the film appears to be well-received, with critics describing it as “an absolute BLAST” and “a great time at the movies!”

Iman Vellani, who stars as Ms. Marvel, has received much praise for her performance, with many saying she steals the show. Additional reactions applaud the natural chemistry of the main trio, as well as Nia DaCosta’s direction.

With previous MCU films receiving more lukewarm responses, early reactions to The Marvels suggest a potential return to form for the beloved franchise after several cinematic disappointments.

At the very least, The Marvels seems to promise a fun time at the movies, with many early reactions stating that it is the most entertaining moviegoing experience they’ve had in a while. As for the rumored cameos and connections to the wider MCU, it appears those will also be worth the wait.

In The Marvels, Carol Danvers mysteriously swaps places with two other heroes, Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel. The movie follows Carol’s attempts to save the universe from a destabilized wormhole, teaming up with Kamala and Monica to become the titular Marvels.

Directed by Nia DaCosta and co-written with Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik, The Marvels stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel), Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. The film also features Zawe Ashton, Samuel L. Jackson, Park Seo-joon, Lashana Lynch, Randall Park, Daniel Ings, Shamier Anderson, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, and Saagar Shaikh. The Marvels is set to be released on November 10, 2023, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
