In a heartwarming reunion, “Home Alone” stars Catherine O’Hara and Macaulay Culkin, who portrayed mother and son Kate and Kevin McCallister in the classic holiday films, came together during Culkin’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. O’Hara was present to support her co-star and friend as he received the 2,765th star on the famous walkway.
Upon meeting at the podium, Culkin and O’Hara shared a warm embrace and joked about needing a chair for Culkin during the proceedings. In her speech, O’Hara spoke highly of her “Home Alone” co-star, stating:
Home Alone was, is and will always be a global… a beloved global sensation. The reason it’s that, the reason families all over the world can’t let a year go by without watching and loving Home Alone together is because of Macaulay Culkin.
O’Hara went on to discuss how writer/director John Hughes must have recognized Culkin’s sense of humor and intelligence as the reason for his success in the film industry at such a young age. She continued:
“Well, I believe you’d have to possess a certain quality: A gift that dear John Hughes obviously recognized in you, Macaulay. Your sense of humor: It’s a sign of intelligence in a child and a key to surviving life at any age. And you have, from what I’ve seen, you have brought that sense of sweet, yet twisted, yet totally relatable sense of humor to everything that you have chosen to do since Home Alone.”
Before concluding her speech, O’Hara added, “Macaulay, congratulations. You so deserve your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And thank you for including me, your fake mom, who left you home alone not once but twice to share in this happy occasion. I’m so proud of you.”
The touching speech left both stars emotional, embracing each other and wiping tears from their eyes. Fans of “Home Alone” can currently stream the film on Disney+.
