  • Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine is confirmed for Deadpool 3; however, Mark Ruffalo’s future as the Hulk is less certain due to legal issues and distribution rights.
  • A potential World War Hulk movie is the ultimate goal, but rights issues need to be resolved before it can happen.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is always growing, and fans are eagerly anticipating new character interactions and battles. Fan art becomes a go-to for those who can’t wait for their favorite characters to clash on-screen or on Disney+. With the upcoming Deadpool 3 bringing Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine into the MCU, one fan has shared a piece of art depicting a battle between Wolverine and his occasional comic book foe, the Hulk. It is unclear if Jackman and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk will ever face off in the MCU, but this fan art brings the epic clash to life.

Hugh Jackman had previously retired from the role of Wolverine after 2017’s Logan, having played the character in Fox’s X-Men Universe since 2000. However, Jackman’s friendship with Ryan Reynolds led to his reprisal of the role in Deadpool 3. While the actor’s return as Wolverine is confirmed, fans continue to speculate about possible face-offs with the Hulk, as the two characters have had contentious interactions in comic books.

Wolverine has become one of the few enemies Hulk fears, with the two characters first meeting in The Incredible Hulk issue #180-181. Although their appearances together have been infrequent, their comic book clashes have generated interest in a similar confrontation in the MCU.

While Jackman’s future in the MCU is relatively clear, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk is more uncertain. The character’s legal ownership has caused difficulties for Marvel Studios, with distribution rights of any solo Hulk projects requiring the consent and backing of Universal Pictures. While Ruffalo has shared his hopes and ideas for future Hulk storylines, a World War Hulk movie remains the ultimate aim but cannot be realized until the rights issues are resolved.

Until then, fans can always enjoy fan art depicting these beloved characters while waiting for the next MCU project featuring Wolverine and Hulk. Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will appear in Deadpool 3, set for a worldwide release on July 26, 2024.
