- Alternate ending to John Wick: Chapter 3 revealed by director
- Ending would have led to an entirely different course for John Wick: Chapter 4
- Chad Stahelski believes the alternate ending would have given a “different flavor” to the series
Director Chad Stahelski has shed some light on an alternate game-changing ending for John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, which would have significantly altered the course of the upcoming John Wick: Chapter 4. The unused ending, he says, would have given a “different flavor” to the popular action film series.
Stahelski explains that the film originally ended with John Wick completing his quest for redemption following the assassination campaign he was forced to endure. It would have left room for a continuation, but it would have fundamentally changed the story’s emphasis.
“I think we had 100 different smart-ass answers to what that meant or what could have been. And, ultimately, you make a decision to alter the path of the story and the series based on a creative thought,” Stahelski said.
The decision to go with the original ending, where John Wick survives and goes on to continue his journey, allowed for action-packed sequels with higher levels of complexity. Although the alternate ending would have been interesting and “different,” it might not have carried the same level of excitement and anticipation for future installments.
As of now, John Wick: Chapter 4 is in the works, with a release date scheduled for May 27, 2022. The upcoming film is anticipated to bring back the thrilling action and compelling storytelling that fans have come to expect from the hero who never runs out of ammo.
