Kang The Conqueror to reportedly return without recasting news in the near future

  • Kang the Conqueror will still be the main villain in The Multiverse Saga despite Jonathan Majors’ firing
  • A Kang variant played by a different actor could potentially be introduced in Phase 6
  • Dr. Doom and/or Apocalypse are also possible antagonists for The Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men

The recent news of Jonathan Majors’ firing from the role of Kang the Conqueror has sparked speculation about how Marvel Studios will handle the character in the future. A new report suggests that Kang will indeed be recast, but an announcement regarding the new actor may not be imminent.

According to The Cosmic Circus, even though Majors is no longer involved, Kang will still be the ultimate villain that The Avengers must face off against to conclude Phase 6 of the MCU. Marvel Studios’ plan is to focus on other storylines while slowly building up Kang and the Multiverse behind the scenes. Other sources have stated that Marvel doesn’t intend to address Kang directly until near the end of The Multiverse Saga. Discussions and plans are also underway for other multiversal villains to take center stage in upcoming phases, given the void left by Kang the Conqueror and his variants.

Deadline’s Justin Kroll has shared similar claims on X (previously Twitter), stating that Marvel Studios will maintain Kang and Multiverse plot lines, but the process of recasting will not be announced anytime soon. This suggests that a Kang variant could be introduced, played by a different actor, allowing the character to remain a central antagonist in The Multiverse Saga.

Alternatively, powerful villains such as Dr. Doom or Apocalypse could be introduced in Phase 6 as adversaries for The Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men. Dr. Doom, for example, has not been fully utilized in the MCU thus far, with previous portrayals by Julian McMahon in the pre-MCU Fantastic Four films. Introducing a new, comic-accurate version of Dr. Doom could make him a compelling and powerful enemy for the Avengers and other Marvel heroes. Other villain options include Apocalypse, who also possesses immense strength and abilities. Regardless, Kang appears to still be a significant part of the MCU’s future, with a recast likely to happen at some point in the future.
