Before the release of the first trailer for Kung Fu Panda 4, it has been announced that Oscar winners Ke Huy Quan and Viola Davis will join Jack Black in the film. Additionally, Awkwafina, known for her roles in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Raya and the Last Dragon, will also be part of the cast. Jack Black welcomed them to the Kung Fu Panda family on social media.
Viola Davis confirmed that she will voice the villain of the movie, the Chameleon, a shape-shifter. Awkwafina will also voice the same character due to the Chameleon’s transformative abilities. Ke Huy Quan’s role is still unknown, but his recent resurgence in his career, including winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in last year’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, makes it yet another significant role for him.
DreamWorks announced in August 2022 that Kung Fu Panda 4 is in the midst of creation, with a scheduled release date of March 8, 2024. The film sees Jack Black reprising his role as Po, and it features a new villain, the Chameleon. At CinemaCon 2022, footage of the movie was shown with Po embarking on a quest to find his successor and facing the Chameleon’s power to resurrect past antagonists.
In collaboration with Simon and Schuster, DreamWorks has revealed the official Kung Fu Panda 4 cover art for the movie’s novelization, featuring Po in his iconic fighting pose and a mysterious temple in the background. A new character, Chen the fox, was also teased, although the actor voicing the character remains unknown.
Kung Fu Panda 4 follows Po as he becomes the new spiritual leader of the Valley of Peace and searches for the next Dragon Warrior, selecting a fox named Zhen who has concerns about being trained by Po. The Chameleon, a cunning new villain, emerges, with the ability to bring back villains from the Kung Fu Panda past.
Kung Fu Panda 4, featuring a new song from Tenacious D, is set to fill theaters with adventure and laughter once again when it releases on March 8, 2024.
