Matthew Perry hoped for Zac Efron’s portrayal in his biopic

  • Matthew Perry had plans for a biopic about his life.
  • He wanted Zac Efron to play him in the movie.
  • Perry’s death last month tragically prevented the project from happening.

The late Friends star Matthew Perry had revealed plans to make a biopic about his life, including his successful acting career and his struggles with addiction. He wanted Zac Efron, who he had previously worked with, to portray him in the film. Perry’s friend Athenna Crosby, who was with the actor the day before his death, shared details of Perry’s vision for the project with “ET“.

According to Crosby, Perry’s intention was to share more about his story and recovery from addiction, in order to help and inspire others. Perry was excited about the project and planned to reach out to Efron about it. Unfortunately, with Perry’s sudden passing on October 28, his plans for the biopic were never realized.

It’s worth noting that Efron had played a younger version of Perry’s character in the 2009 film 17 Again, making him a logical choice to portray Perry in a biopic. Meanwhile, Efron had recently passed on a rom-com written by Perry, possibly due to a shift in his own career trajectory, as he is set to appear in the upcoming biographical sports film, The Iron Claw.

Since Matthew Perry’s death, numerous tributes have been shared, including a joint statement from his Friends co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer. The statement expressed their devastation over the loss, noting that they were more than just castmates, but a family. They shared that they would take time to grieve and process the loss before saying more, and sent their thoughts and love to Perry’s family, friends, and fans around the world.
