- Director Matthew Vaughn suggests Taron Egerton would better suit the role of Lex Luthor in the DCU than Wolverine in the MCU.
- Major changes need to be made when recasting Wolverine, according to Vaughn.
- Egerton and Daniel Radcliffe are rumored to make cameo appearances as Wolverine variants in Deadpool 3.
Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn believes that Taron Egerton would be a great addition to the DCU as Lex Luthor, as opposed to joining the MCU as Wolverine. During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Vaughn expressed that he thinks Egerton would be “amazing” as the Superman villain. Furthermore, he believes major changes should be made when it comes to recasting Wolverine.
Vaughn stated, “I think he’d be better as Lex Luthor. I think he’d be an amazing Luthor. He shouldn’t be Wolverine, I don’t think. I don’t think he’s right for it … Hugh’s brilliant as Wolverine, but I would go back to what the comic is, do really small little grizzly tough guy.” He feels a similar actor to Bob Hoskins would be more suited for the Wolverine role after Hugh Jackman’s iconic portrayal.
Currently, Jackman is set to reprise the role of Wolverine in Deadpool 3 alongside Ryan Reynolds. Rumors also suggest he may appear in the 2027 film Avengers: Secret Wars. There are further rumors thatboth Egerton and Daniel Radcliffe could make cameo appearances as Wolverine variants in Deadpool 3.
Vaughn is confident that Egerton would make an excellent Lex Luthor in the DCU, stating that he would make an “amazing, intelligent villain with depth.” As of now, David Corenswet is slated to play Superman in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, but the role of Lex Luthor has yet to be confirmed.
Taron Egerton is known for his diverse array of roles, including the Kingsman series, Rocketman, Tetris, and the Apple TV+ series Black Bird. As for Matthew Vaughn, he has been in talks with James Gunn about the DCU and is currently working on the upcoming spy film Argylle as well as plans for Kingsman 3 and a sequel to The King’s Man.
