Netflix Data Identifies the Most Popular Spider-Man Actor

  • Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man trilogy has accumulated 59.5 million hours of viewership on Netflix, making it the most popular of the three actors’ interpretations.
  • However, Tom Holland’s Homecoming and Far From Home garnered the highest volume at 29.5 million when comparing the first two movies of each actor’s tenure.
  • The popularity of each Spider-Man actor might be influenced by factors such as being part of the MCU and the recent surge in interest due to No Way Home, which featured multiple Spider-Man versions.

The long-standing debate over the most popular big-screen version of Spider-Man may have found an answer with new data from Netflix. In 2021, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man encountered previous iterations played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, reigniting the debate over which star plays the most popular version of Marvel’s web-slinging hero.

Netflix currently streams Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man trilogy, Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man movies, Tom Holland’s MCU solo trilogy (including the extended version of Spider-Man: No Way Home), and the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse all in one place, thanks to its deal with Sony Pictures. This allows the streaming service to offer insights into the popularity of each Peter Parker portrayal.

Netflix data reveals that subscribers watched over 100 million hours across all Spider-Man movies on the platform within a six-month period. When comparing hours watched for each actor’s Spider-Man movies, Maguire comes out on top with 59.5 million hours, followed by Holland with 48.9 million and Garfield with 36.2 million. However, this includes the hours watched for both versions of No Way Home, making it difficult to determine a clear winner.

By only considering the viewership of the first two movies of each actor’s tenure, Maguire’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 drew 26.4 million views, Garfield’s movies reached 19 million, and Holland’s Homecoming and Far From Home saw the highest volume at 29.5 million. This analysis shows that determining the most popular Spider-Man remains a challenge, as various factors like being part of the MCU and No Way Home’s recent boost in interest for Maguire and Garfield’s portrayals come into play.

While it’s hard to definitively declare the superior Spider-Man, fans hope that No Way Home won’t be the last time all three actors share the screen. Rumors suggest that Avengers: Secret Wars could reunite Maguire, Garfield, and Holland, along with possible live-action appearances from characters featured in the Spider-Verse movies. Ultimately, everyone may have their own favorite friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, and no amount of data can change that.
