- Director Sam Hargrave already has ideas for Extraction 3, indicating another thrilling adventure with Chris Hemsworth’s character, Tyler Rake.
Scott Stuber, Netflix’s Head of Film, recently shared a promising update on the third installment of the action-packed series Extraction. In an interview with Collider, Stuber stated that work is underway on the script for Extraction 3 and noted that the addition of acclaimed actor Idris Elba has helped evolve the franchise moving forward. Stuber compared the second Extraction film to the Bourne movies, highlighting the emotional complexity and familial background surrounding Chris Hemsworth’s character.
Debuting in 2020, Extraction introduced audiences to Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake, a black ops mercenary with nothing to lose. While the film received mixed reviews, the action sequences and one-takes were highly praised, leading it to become the most-watched original movie in Netflix’s history. The second installment, Extraction 2, released earlier this year and received more positive feedback from critics, particularly for its gripping action sequences.
In Extraction 2, Rake is once again tasked with an impossible rescue mission, this time involving the family of a Georgian gangster. The film also introduces Idris Elba’s mysterious character, Alcott, who is expected to continue playing a role in the series. While details about Extraction 3 are currently scarce, fans can likely anticipate Hemsworth’s character embarking on another daring rescue mission. Director Sam Hargrave is reportedly developing an idea for the third movie, stating, “I believe there is another adventure in the wind for Tyler Rake.”
Extraction and Extraction 2 are both available for streaming on Netflix.
