- The Marvels’ final trailer hints at connections to Avengers: Secret Wars and the concept of incursions in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
- Surprising cameos in the trailer fuel speculation of X-Men characters appearing in the movie.
- Incursions, an essential concept in Marvel’s multiverse stories, may also be a part of the upcoming film.
The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, The Marvels, offers hints in its latest trailer that it will be connected to the plot of Avengers: Secret Wars. Directed by Nia DaCosta, The Marvels stars Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. As the trio embarks on a cosmic adventure, they must battle the villain Dar-Benn, played by Zawe Ashton. Dar-Benn acquires bracelets enabling her to open portals to different realities and form an army, possibly leading to incursions.
In popular Marvel Comic series, such as Secret Wars, incursions involve realities colliding with one another until they collapse. Since Avengers: Endgame, the MCU has focused on the concept of the Multiverse and showing different realities. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising if this era concluded with Avengers: Secret Wars. The 2015 comic series saw incursions resulting in the creation of Battleworld and eventually a single universe. This outcome aligns with recent rumors that Secret Wars could serve as a franchise reboot.
The Marvels, releasing in theaters on November 10, is the final MCU film of the year and is anticipated to feature cameos connecting it to other stories within the MCU. The latest trailer shows Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson, and a mysterious figure who fans believe could be Binary, one of Carol Danvers’ many mantles from the comics. Furthermore, there are rumors of X-Men characters making an appearance in the movie, which seems plausible given that Deadpool 3 is the next MCU film to be released. Marvel Studios is currently preparing to meet with writers to develop X-Men universe films, suggesting that mutants will be cooperating with The Fantastic Four in the near future.
