Tom Cruise played a key role in helping Timothée Chalamet with his performance in Dune: Part Two, one of the young actor’s most significant acting challenges. Chalamet has been making a name for himself in Hollywood, and it appears that Cruise, a veteran in the industry, has offered him valuable guidance.
Chalamet started his acting career at a young age, appearing in an episode of Law & Order in 2009. Although he took part in several noteworthy projects, including Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, his breakthrough role occurred in 2017 with his portrayal of Elio Perlman in Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me by Your Name. Afterward, Chalamet began to establish himself as one of Hollywood’s most promising talents and then landed the role of Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Dune. Following a successful first part, a sequel was confirmed with Chalamet reprising his role as the lead character, and Tom Cruise proved to be a great help for this second part.
Chalamet revealed in an interview with GQ that Cruise sent him an email with a list of stunt experts to help him improve his performance in Dune: Part Two. Cruise’s email emphasized that in Old Hollywood, actors would receive dance training and fight training, and since contemporary Hollywood does not necessarily require such training, the responsibility lies with the actors themselves.
Chalamet also spoke about his admiration for Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick, confessing that he watched the film eight times and even took some of the Dune crew to see it:
“Top Gun’ was just hugely inspiring to me last summer when we were making Dune. Some of the crew were kind of scoffing at going, but I just thought it was one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen.”
As for future projects, a third Top Gun film is rumored to be in consideration, possibly focusing on the new characters introduced in the sequel. In the meantime, fans can look forward to Dune: Part Two, slated for release on March 15, 2024, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
