Overview

Everett McGill, Pete Hogwallop and Delmar O’Donnell, three convicts working on a 1930’s Mississippi chain gang, escape in the middle of the day and go in search of a hidden treasure. On their run from the law they encounter such characters as a blind railway worker who tells their collective fortunes, the KKK, and a Negro guitarist who sells his soul to the devil in exchange for the ability to play the guitar like no one else. In racing to find the treasure before its location gets flooded, the trio gets baptized, records a best-selling album and evades the law, only to discover at the end that there is no treasure.
