Schlubby Hal Larson, who, along with his friend Mauricio, is extremely preoccupied with surface appearances. When he bumps into life coach Tim Robbins in an elevator, he shares his frustrations, and the coach decides to hypnotize him so that he is only able to see people’s inner beauty. He soon falls in love with the kind, funny Rosemary, who he sees as a supermodel. In truth, she is extremely obese. Hal is thrilled with his new relationship, but Mauricio finds it disturbing. He tries unsuccessfully to convince Hal to dump her. Ultimately, he seeks out Tim Robbins to find out how to reverse the hypnosis, forcing Hal to face whether he can still love Rosemary seeing her as the world does.
