Working in a rubber factory as an ordinary accountant, Franois Pignon learns that he is about to lose his job and panics. Upon hearing the news, Franois’ neighbor cooks up a plan to help his new friend and starts a rumor that Franois is gay in the hope that management at the factory might fear a sexual discrimination lawsuit. The plan does not work out as it should, but it brings many interesting changes to Franois and the people who surround him.
