A cinematic biography of Rubin “Hurricane” Carter that highlights the racial tensions prominent during the African-American boxer’s lifetime. Carter beats the odds imposed by a youth riddled with conflict to vy for the middleweight boxing title. However, a charge of triple homicide that results in three life-terms in prison derails his career plans. He attempts to prove his innocence by writing an autobiography, but to no avail. However, many years later an African-American boy reads the book and, sure that Carter is innocent, leads an effort to free him from prison. The film sees the boy and Carter pitted against a racist establishment that refuses to willingly exonerate a wrongly convicted man.
